Gentle Chiropractic Techniques For Neck Pain Relief

Neck pain can be very uncomfortable. The common cause of neck pain is sitting for long periods, which is common for people who are glued to their desks for work. If you experience neck pain, a chiropractor may help ease the discomfort with gentle chiropractic care.

Gentle chiropractic care in Charlotte North Carolina

Several chiropractic techniques may be used to treat neck pain. However, the type of method used depends on the patient.

If you don’t want a high level of thrust manipulation, you can ask your chiropractor to perform gentler chiropractic techniques that do not involve joint popping or neck twisting.

Keep in mind that chiropractors may also have a preference of their own. Perhaps, a chiropractor prefers cervical drop over cervical mobilization because they have more experience and skills with it.

That is why you must speak with several chiropractors first. Here are some gentle chiropractic techniques you should know about:

Cervical Mobilization With Gentle Chiropractic

It may seem “spine-chilling” but cervical manipulation is one of the most gentle chiropractic techniques today. For one, you will be required to lie on your back in a comfortable position. When you’re finally comfortable, your chiropractor will use smooth stretches to improve mobility.

There won’t be any movements that produce knee-jerk reactions.

When you’re all stretched out, the chiro will move the vertebrae from left to right, which will make the bones move back and forth through a figure-8 motion. The head may also be moved back and forth and rotated.

Cervical Manual Traction

Cervical manual traction is usually used in tandem with cervical mobilization for the best results. The focus of this chiropractic technique is to provide comfort by loosening the muscles in the neck.

Your chiro will gently pull the neck forward and back to stretch the spine. The chiropractor will explore different angles to ensure that you’re comfortable and the technique is working.

Cervical Drop

In the cervical drop technique, you will be asked to lay on your side or stomach. A piece of special equipment with a head drop piece that is locked in placed will be used in this technique.

The equipment will help loosen the muscles in the neck and improve the range of motion.

The piece of equipment may be intimidating, especially for first-timers. Don’t worry as this is a gentle technique. Your chiropractor will apply steady pressure on the spine until the drop releases.

Conclusion

As you can see, advanced chiropractic techniques for neck pain don’t have to be intimidating. These gentle chiropractic techniques will help you feel at ease before your treatment, and you will also feel relaxed afterward.

It’s crucial to take time to find the best chiropractor that suits your needs. Ask your doctor for referrals and research on your own as well.

The internet contains a lot of information about chiropractors in general. Moreover, taking the time to consult with several chiropractors and discussing your needs and your preferences are essential to ensure that you will get the treatment that makes you comfortable.

Instead of taking pain medications to ease your neck pain or getting frequent massages, opt for a chiropractic therapy! Chiropractic care is an excellent treatment and a holistic approach that will provide you with longer-lasting results.

Get rid of that neck pain and have a chiropractor in Charlotte, NC take care of that for you. Tebby Clinic is one of the best chiropractors in the area. Contact us today.

Charlotte Chiropractor Explains Why Stretching Is Essential

An individual is bound to grow older and experience tighter muscles as part of aging, resulting in limited flexibility and range of motion. You can expect to face your daily routine with more difficulty as you grow older. It’s the stage when you start to experience body pain, such as neck pain and upper back pain, especially if you experience an injury. This is where the act of stretching truly shines.

Charlotte North Carolina woman stretching her hamstrings before seeing her Charlotte NC chiropractor.

Stretching is an inherent part of people’s daily routines, whether you know it or not. The moment you get up in the morning, you’re already stretching your arms and legs to shake yourself awake. It’s even more evident before or after a workout, as you tend to extend your body and stretch to instill energy into your muscles and bones. Aside from the fact that people stretch to feel better, it’s also an activity that offers plenty of benefits to your body functions.

For people who rely on chiropractic care, it’s essential to know that stretching and exercising regularly can speed up your recovery. Keep reading below to find out the benefits of applying stretching and turning it into a habit worth doing.

Stretching Keeps Your Spine Properly Aligned

Each time you stretch, you can enhance your posture by working your chest, shoulders, and lower back. Failing to stretch is actually bad for your spine because your muscles tend to draw up asymmetrically.

As a result, the muscles on one part of your spine can pull up more than the muscles found on the other side, which often leads to a misalignment of your spine. But if you learn to stretch daily and combine it with chiropractic care, you can be sure to achieve good spinal health in the long run.

Stretching Enhances Your Mobility

Professionals always advise people to stretch regularly to increase their flexibility and range of motion to prevent injuries. Despite that, many individuals still forget to move their bodies and end up dealing with lower left back pain that could’ve been avoided with proper stretching.

When you stretch, you are opening up your muscles and joints to work properly without exceeding your limit. So long as you take precautionary measures to extend your arms and legs and don’t overdo it, you can prevent muscle tears and injuries from happening.

Stretching Eliminates Tension in the Body

Stretching regularly allows you to improve your blood flow throughout your entire body and guide the oxygen inside you throughout your muscles, organs, and brain. When oxygen and blood are flowing through you freely, you prevent the buildup of toxins from occurring in your tissues.

Besides that, if you’re experiencing stress in your body, stretching can help eliminate the pressure in your muscles and manage the tension you’re feeling. What’s great about stretching is that you don’t need special equipment to get started. You can simply do it at home and without professional supervision!

Stretching Reduces Lower Back Pain

People who experience back pain and see a sports chiropractor can benefit from regular stretching because it serves as a relief from pain. Instead of taking painkillers and other prescribed medication, stretching helps as a natural solution to treat body pain.

Each time you release the tension that has built up in your muscles, your body is learning to heal on its own and eliminating the sensation you feel when you move your stiff muscles. Stretching serves as a relaxing way to move your body and eliminate pain.

Conclusion

A properly aligned spine, enhanced mobility, reduced tension in the body, and prevention of lower back pain are just some of the benefits of incorporating stretching into your daily routine. While seeing a chiropractor serves to prevent physical problems from occurring, you can also make an effort to take the matter into your hands and learn to move consciously every day. If you need to follow a stretching plan tailored to your needs, you can ask your chiropractor to develop one that can sustain your body and continue inspiring fast recovery.

Understanding Lower Back Pain: Common Mistakes to Avoid

Lower back pain can truly be an inconvenience for anyone. Understanding lower back pain can help in prevention. It affects not only the elderly but many individuals across generations; even those who may appear healthy may suddenly feel this burning, painful sensation. There are many factors that cause lower back pain and many ways to treat this. In many cases, however, the condition is mistreated, especially by those who self-remedy or self-medicate.

By understanding lower back pain it can help in it's prevention.

Most informed patients immediately seek help at a chiropractic office, but more common solutions often include rest and introducing over-the-counter remedies like heat packs or Tylenol. However, this will only temporarily relieve the Massage therapy can also be integrated as a treatment option. Stay active so you can lower your risk of experiencing lower back pain and may cause it to return more intensely. You, too, may currently be experiencing lower back pain and have discovered that it returns from time to time.

This article is here to help those who suffer from lower back pain like you. It can help you rule out the mistakes that most patients make to understand this pain yet ultimately fails to point out its true cause. It also hopes to help you function better as you move forward in life.

1. Relieving momentary pain and instantly going back to normal

This is by far the most common mistake that you can make when you suffer from recurring or chronic back pain. Take note that back pain can often return, and in most cases, more intensely than the previous experience. This is because the way you may have treated the pain was wrong.

For instance, if you are a gym rat and go back to deadlifting after relieving back pain, you may be tempted to lift the same weight you are used to. This poor judgment will inevitably lead to more intense lower back pain.

Pulling certain back muscles can lead to chronic pain, especially when not treated at the root. Don’t overexert yourself or even consider doing the bare minimum of your routine if your back pain just keeps returning. Consult with your doctor or local chiropractor, especially if self-treatment is not cutting it.

2. Mistaking painful area as the area of injury

This mistake is related to the previous section because it’s all in the context of misunderstanding pain in the lower back as something easily determinable. You have to take note that your back is not only made of a structure of muscles and bones fit together. There are also nerves directly connected to the spinal cord, and these connections may be where the root cause of where your back pain comes from.

Back pain that concerns the nerves is deeper and needs immediate medical attention. This is due to the more severe medical conditions that correlate to this kind of pain. The most common nerve-related condition is called a pinched nerve or a nerve that has been compressed due to intense exercise or a serious injury. Chronic pain requires orthopedic attention or exercise therapy to properly facilitate healing at the root.

3. Resting or reducing movement on the back

As we have learned, lower back pain can be serious, and temporarily relieving the pain doesn’t necessarily mean the issue is cured. This is especially true when you also consider reducing movement, particularly to your lower back.

This mistake has some serious drawbacks. It can lead to serious muscle performance in the buttocks and abdomen. This also translates to stiffness in the muscle itself that can prolong the condition. Thus, it is recommended that you rest and still move to relieve your lower back and keep your spine nice and supported.

A combination of resting and movement is the most recommended treatment for acute back pain. This means not sitting for a long period of time but actually moving every 10 to 15 minutes. This allows your lower back to build elasticity in the muscle fibers to facilitate a healthy recovery.

Remember, understanding back pain also means integrating healthy movement in the process.

Conclusion

Lower back pain can be a more complex issue and requires the correct treatment to address effectively. There are mistakes that patients suffering from lower back pain may encounter, and they can continue to worsen their condition if not methodically treated.

Therefore, doing informed self-treatment with a combination of seeking the right medical attention is the more preferred option to avoid these common mistakes. Treat your lower back pain effectively and take the right road to recovery.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a blessing for many, making it one of the most life-changing milestones for every woman across the world. While becoming a parent will surely bring plenty of positive changes in life, it also comes with aches and pains in the body. For this reason let’s explore the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy.

pregnant woman with back pain having safe and effective chiropractic care.

One of the best ways to address the problem is to visit your trusted chiropractor, but most miss out on the pain-relieving therapy due to plenty of misconceptions surrounding chiropractic care during pregnancy.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Pregnant Women?

Many soon-to-be mothers only want what’s best for their babies, so it’s understandable why many are hesitant to go for chiropractic care to manage their back pains. However, chiropractic treatments can do wonders for making pregnancy a significantly easier experience.

The journey often involves plenty of physical and hormonal changes, all of which can feel uncomfortable. Carrying a growing baby can also compromise your posture, resulting in a misaligned spine and painful pressure on your joints.

Not to mention, a growing abdomen also adds extra strain on your back, all of which can lead to a myriad of physical issues. Seeing as chiropractic care is all about realigning your spine, it can improve your pregnancy in these ways:

Benefit #1: Ease Lower Back Pain

Of course, one of the more obvious benefits of chiropractic treatment during pregnancy is that it eases the stress put on their lumbar spine. By soothing the muscle tightness in the back, pregnant women can feel more relaxed and achieve a higher level of comfort throughout their pregnancy.

Beyond easing lower back pain, chiropractic care can also promote a healthier pregnancy, increase mobility, mitigate morning sickness, improve flexibility, sleep, and lower anxiety.

Benefit #2: Improve the Delivery

A misaligned pelvic can make the delivery a challenging and painful experience, especially since it makes it difficult to push out the baby properly. By realigning the pelvic, a pregnant mother will have higher chances of achieving a smooth-sailing routine delivery by the end of their pregnancy.

The Bottom Line: How Chiropractic Care Can Ease Your Pregnancy

Pregnancy is beautiful, indeed, but it is also a painful experience, and the back typically takes the brunt of the legwork as it carries the extra weight the body gains. That’s why studies found that more than a whopping 75 percent of pregnant women deal with pregnancy-related lower back Charlotte chiropractor. The pain and pelvic pain, both of which can compromise a person’s quality of life for the next nine months.

4 Questions to Ask in Diagnosing Sciatica – What to Know

Sciatica is a painful condition that starts from the lower back down to the legs. This numbing and tingling situation happens at the sciatic nerve, which is the largest of its kind in the human body. As a result, the pain is more prominent at the legs rather than the back.

sciatica

While it’s not a disease, it has symptoms that bring constant pain on one side of the body. That burning pain can reach the toes, and the condition gets worse when a person sits down. Asking yourself these four questions below will help determine whether the pain is originating from the nerves or the muscles.

Am I exposed to regular physical activity?

Athletes often experience muscle strain because they extensively use their leg muscles regularly. If you engage in physical activity regularly, you may be experiencing sciatica if you are feeling pain in your legs. On the other hand, athletes who are undergoing the same strain may be dealing with piriformis syndrome. This numbing muscle condition occurs when the muscle at the top of the hip is pressing hard on the sciatic nerve.

Do I have leg weakness?

Since the sciatic nerve is the largest in your body, it can cause tingling or weakness when pinched at any point from the lower spine to the toes. Having one leg weaker than the other is a guaranteed symptom of sciatica, and you must seek medical help to address the condition.

Can I conjure pain when required?

Doctors will ask you to reproduce the pain to diagnose whether or not you are experiencing sciatica. They will require you to push hard on your lower back muscles using your thumb. If the pain persists, it means that you are experiencing a muscle problem because sciatic pain is not replicable through pressure.

 Am I sciatica positive?

Doctors will ask you to lie down while your feet are stretched out. If you feel pain down to your toes once the doctor raises your leg 70 degrees, you have sciatica. That procedure stretches the nerve, and you will suffer pain once it’s pinched.

Likewise, misalignment on the spine’s top bone shifts the entire spine to keep the head balanced. The tilted spine from the atlas to the lower back can pinch the sciatic nerve as well. If this is the case, realigning the spine involves natural means that do not involve bone cracking. The symptoms rarely return once the spine realignment is complete.

Get help from a trusted chiropractor

Reliable chiropractors can alleviate the symptoms of sciatica. With the help of professionals in Tebby Clinic, they will measure the severity of the pain before recommending treatment via exercise and physical therapy. Aside from pain in the lower back and the legs, they can also treat neck, knee, and elbow pain using advanced technology.

The theory behind inversion therapy is, by turning the body upside down or at an angle less than 90 degrees, the patient can unload pressure on the joints, discs, and bones of the lower back.

14 Common Causes of Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is a complex joint consisting of four joints: the sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, scapulothoracic and the glenohumeral joint. Interruption in any of these joints or the associated soft tissues of the shoulder muscles, has the potential to cause shoulder pain.

Most people have experienced shoulder joint pain at one time or another. Here is a list of 14 potential sources of shoulder pain.

There are many causes of sholder pain, here are 14 of the most common causes of shoulder pain.

Common Causes of Shoulder Pain

Fractured Collar Bone

A fractured collar bone can occur because of trauma such as a fall or motorcycle accident. One of the more common causes of a fractured collar bone occur when a motorcyclist is involved in an accident that causes them to be propelled over the handlebars, landing on the asphalt.

A fractured or broken collar bone will often require surgery to realign the bone and its respective joints.

Dislocated Shoulder

A dislocated shoulder is generally the result of trauma and will present when the shoulder is popped out of the shoulder socket. The shoulder will present with a deformity, pain, swelling, bruising and / or numbness.

Shoulder dislocation is common in car accident, falls and in sports injuries.

Treatment typically includes a sedative and manipulation of the joint to restore proper alignment. A sling to immobilize the joint for several weeks is used to prevent further damage. Exercises are initiated to restore proper mobility and strength.

As a rule, the later in life that a dislocation occurs, the less likely it is to re-occur. The converse is also true: the earlier in life the dislocation occurs, the more likely it is to happen again.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease which can develop from an old injury or just plain old, wear and tear.

As we mature, the cartilage in the joint wears down, causing limited mobility resulting in pain and swelling. These same symptoms will also be present in  rheumatoid arthritis and polymyalgia rheumatica.

Bursitis

Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa sac which contains fluid. The bursa sac helps to cushion the bones forming the shoulder joint. The typical signs and symptoms of bursitis include constant pain that worsens with movement. It typically strikes those people over 50 and those with immune system challenges and diabetes.

This is anopther reason why healthy living is great injury prevention.

It is common in athletes who perform repetitive motion such as swimmers and basketball players. Typical treatment involves the application of ice and exercise with antiinflammatory medicine.

Rotator Cuff Injury

This is one of the most common potential sources for shoulder pain. As we age, the bicep tendon becomes worn and prone to tearing. The pain from torn rotator cuff tendons is most evident when try raising your arm.

Rotator  cuff tendinitis can prevent the normal range of motion in the shoulder.

Treatment consists of physical therapy, ice, and pain management medications. Depending on the severity of the rotator cuff tears, surgery may be required.

Regardless of the treatment, the patient will be required to do  rotator cuff exercises.

Frozen Shoulder

A frozen shoulder (AKA adhesive capsulitis) is the inflammation of the lining of the glenohumeral joint. This problem is most common with women between the ages of 40 and 60 and usually comes on gradually without a direct injury.

As time goes on, the range of motion of the joint decreases, “freezing the shoulder joint”.

Typically, ice, antiinflammatory drugss, injections, physical therapy with ultrasound and exercise rehab will help to resolve the problem. Surgery as a last resort may be used along with the above-mentioned treatments.

Pinched Nerve

A nerve that is pinched, as it exits the cervical spine, can produce shoulder pain. This happens when the nerve is pinched by either bone (bone spurs) or disc. As a result, the patient will typically have pain, pins and needles or numbness in the shoulder, arm, or hand.

Treatment with chiropractic care along with physical therapy modalities and even co-management with steroid injections, provide pain relief.

Other causes of Shoulder Pain

Gallbladder, gallstones, and bile duct issues can cause right shoulder pain. These symptoms are referred to as “dermatomal referred pain patterns”. The reason for pain going to the right shoulder blade with gall bladder issues is a result of the phrenic nerve being compressed.

Generally, the pain resulting from gall bladder issues, does not increase with movement of the shoulder.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a mysterious aliment which typically attacks women. These attacks can be in various body parts ranging from the top of the shoulder to knees, hips, and upper chest. Fibromyalgia pain is typically seen with fatigue, depression, anxiety, and headaches.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)

TOS occurs when blood vessels and nerves, exiting the lower cervical spine become compressed between the collar bone and the upper ribs. Symptoms can include numbness in the fingers and pain across the top of the shoulders with neck pain.

chiropractors offer nutritional counseling in addition to spinal manipulations. Because the goal of Chiropractic care with manual manipulation and physical therapy modalities are the preferred route of treatment with surgery as a last option.

Dangerous Sources of Shoulder Pain

Heart Attack

Heart attack pain, unlike gall bladder pain, is typical for left should pain and pain in the left arm. This left shoulder pain during a heart attack is more common is women. Left shoulder pain and pain in the left arm is a warning sign that deserves immediate medical attention. Chest pain is also an accompanying sign of a heart attack and potential heart failure.

Staying healthy with regular checks for heart disease can stop a wide range of symptoms.

Pulmonary Embolism

A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot in the lungs. Typically, the patient experiencing a pulmonary embolism will feel pain in the shoulder which gets worse when they lie down.

This scenario requires immediate medical advice and intervention.

Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Subarachnoid hemorrhaging is a serious condition with accompanying visual issues, numbness, confusion, and even painful headaches. This is an issue where there is a hemorrhage (bleeding) between the brain and its protective tissue layer.

This requires immediate emergency attention, and should you experience these symptoms, you will need to go directly to the nearest emergency room to prevent brain damage.

Lung Cancer

Cancer of the lungs can also refer pain to the shoulder. This type of pain is often overlooked and treated as arthritic degeneration.

If you have an accompanying chronic cough, weight loss, fatigue, difficult in breathing or shortness of breath as well as a tendency towards multiple respiratory infections, these may direct the doctor to determine that you do in fact have lung cancer.

Should you have pain in the shoulders, contact Tebby Chiropractic and Sports Medicine Clinic for evaluation and treatment. Call 704-541-7111 to schedule your appointment or use the handy appointment request form on the side of the page.
